In 1994, everything changed in South Africa. All races voted in elections, and segregation laws were no more. Optimism and excitement were in the air in this new post-apartheid state. Yet in a small, rural hospital, where middle-aged Frank Eloff works as a doctor, life is slow and predictable. Frank moved there to escape his life in the city an has spent many monotonous years waiting to be promoted.

When an enthusiastic young medical graduate arrives, Frank's dry and dusty world is shaken up. His new colleague Laurence Waters is detemined to make big changes to reflect the modern, better South Africa.

The good new doctor quickly becomes a danger to himself and others, as his innocence and idealism chash with the stobborn nature of the hospital and the sinister remains of the old apartheid days.
