Inhalt

The year is 1948, just before the Civil Rights Movement comes into full swing. In the fictitious town of Bayonne, Louisiana, a young African American, Jefferson, has been sentenced to death in an obviously unfair trial. His crime? Being an innocent witness to a liquor store shootout. As the only survivor there are no witnesses to prove his innocence and his court-appointed attorney's only defence is that Jefferson is not much more than a hog. Jefferson's godmother calls upon the local black teacher to convince Jefferson that he is a human being ready to face death with dignity. It is the only means of protest against a society dominated by vicious racism. Will the teacher succeed?
